The Canadian soprano, Henriette Schellenberg, has been heralded in Canada as 'among the very finest oratorio singers'. Since completing her studies at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie in Detmold, West Germany, she has firmly established her career as a distinguished concert and oratorio performer.
Henriette Schellenberg has worked with such respected conductors as Charles Dutoit, Seiji Ozawa, Agnes Grossman, Robert Shaw, Mario Bernardi, Zubin Mehta, Helmuth Rilling, Jahja Ling, Yoel Levi and Jesús López-Cobos. Presented by the major orchestras throughout North America she has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, St Luke's Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra of Ottawa, Ontario, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
Henriette Schellenberg's distinguished career includes memorable performances of Strauss' Four Last Songs with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg in France and Germany, the Francis Poulenc Gloria with Robert Shaw, Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, a European tour with the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Haydn's Creation with Helmuth Rilling. She is acclaimed for her versatility in repertoire ranging from the Baroque to contemporary works such as the Webber's Requiem. She has received critical acclaim for performances of L.v. Beethoven's Christ on the Mount of Olives, Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, J.S. Bach's solo cantatas BWV 51 (Jauchzet Gott in allen landen) and BWV 202 (Wedding Cantata), and George Frideric Handel's Messiah.
Her radiant soprano voice is in great demand, and current engagements take her throughout North America and Europe. She is a welcome performer at major music festivals such as Tanglewood, the Oregon Bach Festival, the Bethlehem Bach Festival, the Baldwin-Wallace College Bach Festival, the Elora Three Centuries Festival, the Heidelberg Festival and the 1989 International Choral Festival.
Highlights of past seasons include W.A. Mozart's Mass in C Minor at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton, F. Mendelssohn's Elijah in Edmonton, J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Florida, Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony in Montreal, Orff's Carmina Burana with the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, and J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245) with Tafelmusik.
In the 1998-1999 season Henriette Schellenberg appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and gave performances in Frankfurt and Wurzburg, Germany and on tour in China. She sang J.S. Bach's St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) in Edmonton, J. Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem in Calgary, L.v. Beethoven's Missa Solemnis in Florida, G.F. Handel's Messiah in Toronto and was the featured soloist at the Closing Ceremonies of the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg.
Her 1999-2000 season featured Henriette Schellenberg in multiple performances of L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 on tour in Quebec, G.F. Handel's Messiah in Montreal with Agnes Grossman and in Kitchener with the Kitchener Waterloo Philharmonic Choir, J.S. Bach's Mass in B Minor (BWV 232) with Tafelmusik, W.A. Mozart's Mass in C Minor at the Bach Festival of Winter Park, the Penderecki Credo with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and G.F. Handel's Messiah with Pro Coro. Her summer activities included the Orford Festival, Calgary Bach Festival and a workshop and recital at the ISME Conference. In 2000-2001 she made her debut with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Her discography includes works with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem (Wachet Auf, Dorian), the New England Bach Festival, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, St Luke's Orchestra, the St Lawrence Choir, Britten's Les Illuminations with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra which received a Juno nomination for CBC Records, and a Clara Schumann CD with Irmgard Baerg also for CBC Records. |
