The Swiss baritone, Manuel Walser, was first attracted to classical music when he studied at the St. Gallen’s Singschule. Since he also received private lessons with Helen Löw. As a boy he sang 1st Boy in W.A. Mozart’s Zauberflöte at the Stadttheater St. Gallen, 16 times. His appearances have sparked enthusiasm. From January 2005 to September 2008, he studied singing at the “Zürich Konservatoriums Klassik und Jazz" of Frédéric Gindraux. As a 16 years old baritone, he won in May 2005 1st prize with honours at the Schweizerischen Jugendmusikwettbewerb (Swiss Youth Music Competition) in Lugano. In September 2007 and 2010 he attended master-classes with Thomas Quasthoff and Justus Zeyen at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg. In October 2008 he began his studies in opera singing with Professor KS Thomas Quasthoff at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. In April 2009, a master-class followed by his principal teacher in the Kammermusiksaal of the Berliner Philharmonie. During his studies at the HfM Hanns Eisler, he also participated in the Korrepetition class of Karola Theill and since September 2009, the Lied class of Wolfram Rieger.
He has sung at the Tonhalle Zürich, at the Kammermusiksaal and in the Foyer of the Berliner Philharmonie. When Thomas Quasthoff was awarded the Kammersänger title on December 1, 2009, Manuel Walser was allowed jointly with Justus Zeyen to appear at the Audienzsaal of the Palais Starhemberg in Vienna. He has given numerous concerts in Switzerland and Germany. Since 2008 he is a member of the Chor der J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen (formerly: Vokalensemble der Schola Seconda Pratica). In December 2010 he received a prize of Ausserrhodischen Kulturstiftung. He now lives in Berlin. |
