The French-born lyric soprano, Hélène Walter, practiced of music began when she was very young. She played various instruments (violin, oboe, piano) before dedicate her life to singing. In 2008, she joined Frédéric Gindraux’s class at the Music School of Lausanne where she obtained in 2013 her Master's degree with the jury’s congratulations and two awards for excellence. In parallel, she refined her skills by attending master-classes with Teresa Berganza, Helmut Deutsch, John Fiore, Luisa Castellani and Dale Duesing and performed with the conductors Ton Koopman and Michel Corboz. After the end of her studies, she has the privilege to work with renowned teachers such as David Jones, Sami Kustaloglu and François Le Roux. She is laureate of two International Singing Competitions: Clermont-Ferrand in France(one of the 24th competition edition laureate, February 2015) and Mâcon in France (young lyric talent Prize and the Audience's Prize, November 2014).
Hélène Walter has sung on the stage of prestigious theatres such as the Lausanne Opera House or the Paris Champs-Elysées theatre. Her passion for opera led her to work with, among others, the Atelier lyrique of Tourcoing (France) conducted by Jean-Claude Malgoire (Barberina in Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A. Mozart, 2010) and the Lausanne Opera House (Isabelle in L'Aiglon by Arthur Honegger and Ibert 2013, Agathe in Les Mousquetaires au couvent by Louis Varney in December 2013, Model in Phi-phi by Henri Christiné in June-July 2014). She worked with conductors and stage directors such as Corrado Rovaris, Jean-Yves Ossonce, Nir Kabaretti, Theodor Guschlbauer, Jérôme Deschamps, Marco Carniti, Renée Auphan, Pierre Constant, Eric Vigié or Jérôme Deschamps and Jean-Louis Grinda. In October 2014, she sang the part of Mélisande in an OpEra12 production of Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy in Paris. Having already interpreted the roles of Belinda in Purcell’s Dido &Aeneas (2010), Philadel, Cupid, Venus and Honour (King Arthur, 2012), she also performed under John Duxbury’s direction with the Hémiole and Cantatio ensembles during concerts dedicated to the British composer.
Proficient in a large and varied repertoires, Hélène Walter performs Baroque, classical, romantic or contemporary music. She has performed as a soloist in the sacred repertoire of J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi or George Frideric Handel under the direction of Pascal Mayer (J.S. Bach's St. John Passion (BWV 245) and St. Matthew Passions (BWV 244) in March and April 2014; G.F. Handel’s Dixit Dominus, December 2013), John Duxbury (G.F. Handel’s Dixit Dominus, April 2014), Dominique Tille (J.S. Bach's Cantatas) and collaborate with great ensembles such as the Ensemble Pygmalion (Director: Raphaël Pichon) and Gli Angeli Genève (Director: Stephan MacLeod). In 2012, she founded with three alumni of the Lausanne Music School the chamber music Ensemble Auliden, dedicated to the Baroque and contemporary repertoire, which was broadcasted live on the Swiss radio Espace 2 (RTS) in February 2014 and February 2015. Since 2013, she has also been a member of Namascae Ensemble (Director: William Blank), with which she performed the music of Xavier Dayer, Pierre Boulez and Michael Jarrell, in prominent venues, including the Royaumont’s Abbey in September 2013.
Deeply found of Lieder and melodies, especially from German and Russian composers such as Gustav Mahler, Schubert, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Sergei Rachmaninov, Hélène Walter performed this repertoire in numerous recitals, one of which was broadcasted live on the Swiss radio Espace 2 (RTS) in February 2013. In July 2014, she toured Brazil with the Thymos Quartet with a program dedicated to German romantic repertoire. In March 2022, she founded the vocal ensemble Voix pour la Paix, of which she is Artistic Director and singer. |
