The Canadian mezzo-soprano, Jessica Wright, studied at Unionville High School in Ontario (2006-2010). She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performanc from the University of Toronto (2011-2015).
Jessica Wright is a mezzo soprano with an invested interest in the historically informed performance of early music. She has been featured as a soloist with Tafelmusik, The Toronto Consort, Theatre of Early Music (Director: Daniel Taylor), Toronto Masque Theatre and Opera Atelier.
Highlights of the 2015-2016 season include performances of the Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 with the Toronto Consort, Sir James Macmillan's Seven Last Words From The Cross with Soundstreams, as well as settings of the St John Passion by both Heinrich Schütz and J.S. Bach on Good Friday. An avid interpreter of J.S. Bach, Jessica Wright has been a soloist in performances of J.S. Bach's passions and cantatas with the Theatre of Early Music, Tafelmusik, Toronto Chamber Choir and Talisker Players. Previous season highlights include concert performances of W.A. Mozart's Requiem, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Nicolaimesse, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria and the Maurice Duruflé Requiem, as well as staged performances as the Sorceress in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with the Theatre of Early Music.
Jessica Wright began singing in choirs at the age of seven, and continues to do so to this day. Formerly a member of the Tafelmusik Chamber Choir, she has been featured as a soloist with Tafelmusik in performances of motets by Purcell and Carissimi as well as in G.F. Handel's Coronation Anthems. She has been the alto soloist and section lead of the Trinity St. Paul's Choir in Toronto since 2011, and has sung in many professional choirs including Soundstreams' Choir 21, The Toronto Chamber Choir, the Cathedral Choir of St. James, and the Choir of the Theatre of Early Music. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario. |
