The Zürcher Bach Chor (= ZBC) looks back on over 50-year history back. Today the ZBC belongs to the most efficient concert choirs of Switzerland. Owing to engaged, valid interpretations of the great choral works - in particular those of J.S. Bach - they enjoy an excellent reputation.
The varied repertoire of the ZBC is characterised by choral works of the Baroque, important works of the classical and romantic periods, such as Missa Solemnis by L.v. Beethoven and the Requiem of Verdi, or works of the 20th Century. Apart from the big main concerts, the ZBC also performs works for smaller size - a-capella motets and works with chamber orchestra accompaniment.
The ZBC is led since 1972 by Peter Eidenbenz. With his temper, his talent to the choir education and his claim of quality he shapes crucially the style and the expressive strength of the choir. For today's realisations of performance practice, the ZBC has associated arranged flexible structures that can adapt the size of the performing choir according to the to the requirements. For example, the works of Bach and Mozart needs smaller forces in comparison to those of Verdi.
The ZBC gives its concerts regularly at Tonhalle Zürich. It maintains a close co-operation with the Zürich's Tonhalle Orchester, and also with the Basel Sinfonietta. So far the ZBC has produced two CD recorded live in concerts. |
