History & Mission: |
The Malaysia Bach Festival was founded in 2015 by its Artistic Director David Chin in commemoration of J.S. Bach’s 330th birthday anniversary. The Malaysia Bach Festival Singers and Orchestra presented the premiere performance of St. John Passion (BWV 245) in Malaysia. In commemorating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s reformation, they performed Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and commissioned a new work Psalm 46 by Malaysian composer Caeleb Tee in a concert organized by the Lutheran Church in Malaysia in 2017. In the 2018-2019 season, they will collaborate with the Gospel Culture Center Malaysia to present J.S. Bach’s cantata and motet in liturgical setting, perform J.S. Bach’s instrumental and vocal works with Ensemble Virama, and present J.S. Bach’s monumental St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244).
The Malaysia Bach Festival is dedicated to:
• Promoting music of J.S. Bach and other great composers in Malaysia and beyond
• Creating excellent music-making opportunities for local talents
• Making J.S. Bach’s music accessible to all through performance and education
• Collaborating with various organizations in creative and innovative projects |
