The Swiss mezzo-soprano, Renate Berger, began her musical studies as a flautist in Bern and at the Konservatorium in Neuenburg (Neuchâtel Conservatory). She then studied singing with Professor Liliane Zürcher (Master's in Pedagogy) and Peter Brechbühler (Master's in Performance) at the Hochschule für Musik in Luzern and the Schweizer Opernstudio in Biel. She also continued her studies with Valérie Guillorit in Paris. She received further important inspiration from Margreet Honig, Audrey Hyland, Lena Hellström-Färnlöf, Ulrike Sonntag, and the Dutch breathwork teacher Paul Triepels.
Renate Berger has sung as a soloist with the Mozartensemble Luzern, Orchester La Folia in Zürich, the Ensemble für Neue Musik Zürich, and Philharmonischen Orchester Budweis, among others. In addition to her concert activities, she has also performed in operas, for example in the contemporary music theater production Ariadnes Faden at the Theater Casino Zug conducted by Angelika Luz and at the Theater Biel Solothurn in W.A. Mozart's Idomeneo conducted by of Franco Trinca (Stage Director: W. Mehring). She also developed the scenic collage MEDEA? with soprano Viviane Hasler, accordionist Ina Callejas, and stage director Andreas Rosar, which was performed in Baden, Biel, and Bern. She also sang the world premiere of Edward Rushton's new music theater piece Apartment for soprano, mezzo-soprano, accordion, and bass clarinet, with performances at Gare du Nord in Basel, Stanzerei Baden, Theater Stok in Zürich, and Neubad Luzern, among others. Most recently, she performed Gwendolen in Paul Burkhard's Bunbury at the Oper im Knopfloch in Zürich in October-November 2024.
Renate Berger is a newcomer to the Zürcher Sing-Akademie and a vocal teacher at the Musikschule Oberaargau and at Instrumentor. |
