The Swiss pianist, Beatrice Berrut, started the piano aged 9, first at the Conservatoire de Lausanne with Pierre Goy, and chamber music with Pierre Amoyal, before being accepted to study at the Neuhaus Foundation in Zürich under renowned pianist Esther Yellin. She then graduated from the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin, where she studied with Galina Iwanzowa. She was awarded an Artist Diploma in John O’Conor’s class at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. From fall 2011 she pursued her studies at Indiana University in Menahem Pressler’s class. The winner of the « Société des Arts Competition » in Geneva, she was the Swiss laureate at the Eurovision Contest for young classical musicians, going on to represent Switzerland at the European Contest in Berlin. She also won Bach special award at Wiesbaden International Piano Competition.

Described as « a wonderfully talented and musical pianist, with impressive seriousness, commitment and sensitivity» by Gidon Kremer, she is no stranger to the international stage. She has played numerous concerts throughout Europe and America, at prestigious venues such as Preston Bradley Hall and Bennett Gordon Hall in Chicago, Chopin Academy Hall in Warsaw, Berlin Philharmony and Konzerthaus Berlin, Wigmore Hall in London, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Teatro Coliseo of Buenos Aires, the Cleveland Museum of Arts…
Since the release of her debut CD in 2003 on the Amie label, featuring works by L.v. Beethoven, Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt, Beatrice Berrut has been in demand to play as a soloist in prestigious venues, either on recital, or with numerous orchestras such as the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, North Czech Philharmonic, Camerata Menuhin, Berliner Kammerphilharmonie, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, the United Nations Orchestra… She also appears regularly on Swiss, German, USA and Canadian radio and television. In 2011 she has released Robert Schumann's complete piano Sonatas on the American label Centaur Records. She also appears regularly on television (ARTE, France 3, RTS, Sat3, ZDF, Tv Berlin, Canal9) and on Swiss, German, US, French, Belgian and Canadian radios (BBC3, WFMT Chicago, CWKR, France Musique, Espace 2, RTBF…). Her discography is internationally acclaimed, and whereas Fanfare Record Magazine compares her playing to Horowitz, French magazine Diapason praises her “silvery sound, her warm and charming playing” Her career has been granted numerous awards – the “Revelación” prize 2011 of the Argentinian Critics’ Association, Geneva’s Arts Society’s Prize in 2006, The Förderpreis of the State of Valais, as well as the Griffon culturel of the Association du Chablais (Switzerland).
A keen chamber musician, in 2005 Beatrice Berrut was personally invited by Gidon Kremer to play several concerts at his festival in Basel, and in 2007 and 2008 by Shlomo Mintz to his festival in Sion, as well as for duo recitals in Argentina in September 2011. In August 2011 she performed Robert Schumann's Quintett with Itzhak Perlman at the Hamptons, New York. In 2010 and 2011 she was invited to be artist in residence at Ravinia Festival as a member of the renowned Steans Institute. She is influenced heavily by her regular work with pianists such as Menahem Pressler, John O’Conor, Brigitte Engerer and the late György Sándor. She regularly appears with other first class partners such as Frans Helmerson and Mihaela Martin. She has been as well collaborating with French-Belgian cellist Camille Thomas since years now.
Beatrice Berrut is a Steinway Artist. She is passionate about aviation and is studying for a private pilot’s licence. |
