Viola Blache (Soprano)

Born: 1993 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

The German soprano, Viola Blache, studied singing from 2013 to 2018 with Marek Rzepka and Yosemeh Adjei in the early music department at the Hochschule für Musik & Theater Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Leipzig. She furthermore got musically influenced by Susanna Rigacci at the Accademia Europea di Florence, Italy, and in master-classes with Maria Jonas and Dorothee Mields. Currently she continues her studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Xenia Meijer. She is a finalist and awardee of several voice competitions such as the XX. International Bach-competition Leipzig 2016 or the International Telemann-competition 2017.

Viola Blache gained experiences singing as a soloist primarily in sacred music such as oratories by Monteverdi (Vespro Della Beata Vergine), Felix Mendelssohn (Elias), George Frideric Handel (Messiah); J.S. Bach (Christmas Oratorio BWV 248, the Passions BWV 244, BWV 245) and numerous cantatas by J.S. Bach and others. Her work further includes chamber music, English lute songs, French airs de cours, Italian madrigals and many more. On the opera stage she has performed as Salomé in Alessandro Stradella’s San Giovanni Battista (opera productions of the Music Conservatory Leipzig), as Madmoiselle Silberklang in W.A. Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor (Junge Mitteldeutsche Kammeroper) or as Ascanio in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s opera Lo frate ‘nnamorato under the baton of Maurizio Colasanti (Guardiagrele Opera, Italy, July 2016).

In the current season, Viola Blache is performing as soloist in the contemporary music theatre production The Blind of LOD muziektheater Ghent (music by Jan Kuijken). Until now she has worked together with conducters like Hans-Christoph Rademann, Philippe Herreweghe, Howard Arman, Maurizio Colasanti, Gotthold Schwarz or Gregor Meyer and sang at the Bachfest Leipzig, Heinrich Schütz Musikfest Weißenfels, Kölner Fest für Alte Musik, Musikfest Stuttgart and other early music festivals.

Viola Blache is a founding member of the female vocal sextet “Sjaella”, which exists since 2005 and performs concerts nationally and internationally with a diverse repertoire encompassing classical, contemporary and jazz music. The ensemble has won numerous awards, released four CD's and is a regular presence on national television and radio. She furthermore sings with early music ensembles such as Ensemble 1684, Batzdorfer Hofkapelle, Johann Rosenmüller Ensemble, La Chapelle Harmonique (Director: Valentin Tournet) and is a member of Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe).
