Taylor Mason Boone (Tenor, Counter-tenor)

Born: USA

The American tenor and counter-tenor singer, pianist, organist, composer, and music educator, Taylor Mason Philip Boone, received at the age of 15 Student Artist Encouragement Award after singing for a master-class with Maestro Peter Mark and Joe Walsh in Norfolk, Virginia. This award led to his first professional contract with the Lyric Opera of Virginia, where he was the youngest member of the opera chorus during their opening production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata.

Taylor Mason Boone obtained his Bachelor of Music degree (2018) and his Master of Music degree (2018-2020) from of University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he trained under Dr. Marilyn Taylor and Dr. Karen Beres. He is also a graduate of the AJ Fletcher Opera Institute, where he studied with Marilyn Taylor.

Since 2015, Taylor Mason Boone has performed in the opera chorus for various productions at Piedmont Opera under the baton of Maestro James Allbritten. In 2017, he made an appearance on the stage as the Second French Soldier in Piedmont Opera’s production of Silent Night. Not long after, he was invited by Maestro Allbritten to sing as the Alto Soloist for The Winston Salem Mozart Club’s annual performance of George Frideric Handel's Messiah. Prior to his transition to counter-tenor, he studied as a high lyric tenor. In 2016, he had the opportunity to sing the roles of Vezinet and Achille di Rosalba in Nino Rota's Il cappello di paglia di Firenze with the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute at UNCSA and Don Octave in P.D.Q. Bach’s The Stoned Guest.

Taylor Mason Boone is establishing himself as a marketable counter-tenor in the music scene. He has performed nationally with diverse ensembles and opera companies. He has been described as having a “fine and finished voice” by Classical Voice of North Carolina. He currently holds a position as the Alto Section Leader and Alto Soloist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston Salem, under the direction of Dr. John Cummins. Hae serves as Music Director and Organist at Stokesburg United Methodist Church in Walnut Cove, North Carolina. He has performed with the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus, Piedmont Opera, the Princeton Music Festival, and the Salem Bach Festival. He is also a member of of Winston-Salem Choral Artists (Director: Christopher Gilliam).

As a professor at Surry Community College and a member of the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorus, Taylor Mason Boone blends his roles as an educator and performer seamlessly. His musical prowess resonates in his dynamic contributions to both the academic and artistic realms.
