Winston-Salem Choral Artists (Chamber Choir)

Founded: Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA

Winston-Salem Choral Artists (= WSCA) is a professional chamber choir led by artistic director and conductor Dr. Christopher Gilliam. Based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina - the City of Arts and Innovation—its mission is to perform, share, and advocate for highest-level choral artistry within the local community, in the surrounding region, and nationally.

Choral music and choral singing have formed a part of the fabric of Winston-Salem since the founding of Salem in 1753. From its earliest Moravian roots, Winston-Salem has always welcomed and supported choruses and choral performance in both secular and sacred contexts.

Mission

Winston-Salem Choral Artists is a premier, fully professional choral organization dedicated to apex artistry, performing highest-level and relevant repertoire before diverse audiences locally, regionally, and nationally while engaging with other artistic organizations, educational institutions, and community partners to elevate the human spirit and inspire multigenerational audiences through the power of the choral art.

The Artists

Having spent the better part of their lives and careers in music, the Choral Artists are exceptional soloists, musicians, and performers from the surrounding Piedmont-Triad area. They are also entrepreneurs, health care professionals, educators, therapists, and everything in between. It is the focus of the ensemble - the teamwork, camaraderie, discipline, and intentionality - that brings them together, but it is the power of the choral art and the impact that music continues to have in their lives, and can have in the lives of others, which compels them to reach audiences through their refined and dedicated artistry.

Innovative & Unique

The first fully professional 501(c)3 non-profit choral organization in Winston-Salem, NC, “The City of Arts and Innovation,” Winston-Salem Choral Artists fills a unique and important niche in the wide array of musical performances in the city, throughout the region, and beyond. Providing the means to enhance the performance opportunities, income, and professional development for the deep pool of professional vocal artists and musicians in our area, our community benefits from the extraordinary impact from artists who have undergone a rigorous selection process having the skills, musicianship, vocal training, and personal integrity requisite for a high-caliber professional chamber ensemble.
