Wake Forest University Chamber Choir (Chamber Choir)

Born: Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA

Wake Forest University Chamber Choir (MSC 146 A) (= WFUCC) is the premier choral ensemble at Wake Forest University. A highly select, auditioned mixed choir comprising students from various academic disciplines, this group performs the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature.

The Chamber Choir represents Wake Forest on the campus in its traditional annual Moravian Lovefeast (the largest service of its kind in the country). Chamber Choir also represents Wake Forest regionally with the Winston-Salem Symphony and Symphony Chorus, and nationally and internationally through tours that occur nearly every year.

Wake Forest Chamber Choir members take great pride in the discipline of the choral rehearsal and a strong work ethic that results in sensitive artistry. The singers also greatly value the friendships that are built through their focused work together.

An essential component of the ensemble’s development and camaraderie is each member’s participation in the choir tours that take place almost every May at the end of the academic year. Tours alternate between domestic tours and tours abroad. Past international tours have taken Chamber Choir to Austria, England, Ireland, Italy, and Spain and Portugal, and Brazil.

Featured composers in the repertoire of Wake Forest University Chamber Choir include: Hildegarde Von Bingen (1098-1179), J.S. Bach (1685-1750), Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel (1805-1847), Clara Schumann (1819-1896), Amy Beach (1867-1944), Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979), Alice Parker (b. 1925), Emma Lou Diemer (b. 1927), Williametta Spencer (b. 1932), Carol Barnett (b. 1949), Bob Chilcott (b. 1955), Rosephanye Powell (b. 1962), Ēriks Ešenvalds (b. 1977), Mari Esabel Valverde (b. 1987), Alysia Lee (b. 1993).
