The French choral conductor and baritone singer, Maurice Bourbon, after a first career as a scientist, chose to make music his profession He studied singing with Amilcare Castellardo and harmony with Charles Ravier.
Maurice Bourbon is a choral conductor and teacher known for his interpretations of early polyphonic music. He is the director of the French early music vocal Ensemble Métamorphoses De Paris. From its inception in 1983, the ensemble has specialized in French and Italian music from the Renaissance and Baroque. He leads Méyamporphoses with or without instrumental accompaniment, depending on the repertoire. Since 1987 he is also director of the Coeli et Terra Vocal Ensemble of Lille.
In 1986 Maurice Bourbon began to teach singing and choir conducting in France and Italy. In 1989, he created Métamorphosis, an academy for the study of polyphonic singing at which Ensemble Métamorphoses De Paris is the ensemble-in-residence. Four years later, he founded the International Workshop for Vocal Polyphony at Cévennes. |
