The Spanish conductor, José Carlos Carmona Sarmiento, studied philosophy at Universidad de Sevilla (1989-1995); Orchestra Conducting and Choir Direction at Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid (1992-1996). He studied with Enrique García Asensio, and with Ruben Vartanyan in the USA.

He was Professor-Director of Orchestra at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla (October 1995-September 2000); Professor of Orchestra and Director of Orchestra at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias (October 2002-September 2005); Professor of Orchestra Conducting at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga (September 2012-December 2014). Currently, he is Professor of the Music Department at the Universidad de Sevilla (since 2001); Director of the Orquesta Sinfónica Hispalense (since 1997) and the Coro de la Universidad de Sevilla (since February 1997), he is the author of the book Musical interpretation criteria. – El debate sobre la reconstrucción histórica -. Among the hundreds of concerts given, he has conducted: Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, "Resurrection"; Johannes Brahms's A German Requiem, Verdi's Requiem, Berlioz' Fantastic Symphony, J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, etc.; in venues such as: the Lope de Vega Theater (Sevilla), UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Catedral de Sevilla, etc.; with groups such as the Volgograd Symphony Orchestra (Russia), Orquestas del Sistema Venezolano (Choir and Maturín), Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga, Orquesta Ciudad de León, Orquesta Sinfónica 1º de Mayo, Compañía Lírica “María Malibrán” and Orquesta y Coro de la Fundación Tres Culturas, among many others.
