The Swiss violinist, Rahel Cunz, received her musical training from Rudolf Bamert in Zürich and from Aida Stucki-Piraccini at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Winterthur. These studies were supplemented by participation in master-classes by Joseph Gingold and Gérard Poulet in Greensboro, USA, by Boris Belkin in Siena and by Rainer Kussmaul at the Carl-Flesch-Akademie in Baden-Baden. She won first prizes in various competitions at an early age, including the Schweizerischen Jugendmusikmusikwettbewerb and the Brahms-Wettbewerb. She received sponsorship awards from the Migros-Genossenschaftsbundes and the Kulturstiftungen von Stadt und Kanton St. Gallen.
Rahel Cunz has been concert-master with the Musikkollegium Winterthur since 1994. As a member of the soloist ensemble of the Collegium Novum Zürich, she regularly works with Heinz Holliger, Jörg Widmann, Sofia Gubaidulina, Arvo Pärt, Salvatore Sciarrino and others. Some works by well-known composers have been dedicated to her, premiered and recorded by her.
The training of talented young violinists at the Konservatorium Winterthur is another major concern of her.
In addition to these activities, she performs a wide range of concert activities both as a soloist and as a chamber musician in various formations. She is one of the few violinists who has György Ligeti's epochal Violin Concerto in her repertoire. She currently lives in Winterthur, Switzerland. |
