The Italian lutenist, Mario D'Agosto, graduated in guitar under the guidance of Giuliano Balestra. Attracted by the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, he devoted himself to the study of the lute, studying with Hopkinson Smith at the International Courses in Estoril (Portugal), Rome, Banyuls and University of Tours (France).
Mario D'Agosto has performed numerous concerts and has recorded for Italian and foreign issuers, including Vatican Radio and RAI. He has performed original music for lute by J.S. Bach a tour in Central America, South America and later in Europe.
Mario D'Agosto is part of I Cantori di S. Carlo, with whom he participated in the International Festival of Como, Prague, Barcelona, Siviglia, Malaga, Ankara, Izmir, Monaco and the Teatro Sistina in Rome. He also plays in a duo with Rosario Cicero (Renaissance and Baroque guitar) and with the group "Antiquaviva", offering performances of music, poetry and dance. With the Accademia Strumentale Romana he has recorded music by Alessandro Scarlatti. Recently he has recorded two CD's for the label Niccolò: the first "Viaggio in Italia" (Journey to Italy) with music by Silvius Leopold Weiss and the second "Diferencias" in a duet with Rosario Cicero.
Mario D'Agosto is Professor of Lute at the Conservatory Niccolò Piccinni in Bari and currently holds regular courses lute for the Department of Early Music at the Arts Academy in Rome. He has also given master-classes in several cities of Italy, at the National Museum of Musical Instruments in Rome and in some music conservatories. He collaborates with the magazine Chitarra Classica under the column "Suoni delle antiche intavolature".("Sounds of the ancient tablatures.)" Hew has been a jury member in international competitions. |
