Rúben Dubrovsky (Conductor)

Born: 1968 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

The Argentinean-born conductor, Rubén Dubrovsky, was born into Polish-Italian family of artists. He began his education at the Conservatorio Nacional in Buenos Aires, and continued on from 1990 to 1995 at the Conservatory Detmold (Germany). He complemented his studies with courses of violoncello with Bernhard Greenhouse, chamber music with Eberhard Feltz, and conducting with Mario de Rose.

Two experiences, which Rubén Dubrovsky skillfully and inspiringly links to this day, mark his path as a musician: his classical training as a cellist and conductor on the one hand, and on the other his passionate academic research into the common roots of traditional South American music and European Baroque music. He has established himself as one of the most fascinating conductors in the field of the Baroque and Classical repertoire.

Rubén Dubrovsky is the founder and artistic leader of the Bach Consort Wien, which soon became one of Austria’s leading Baroque ensembles. The press praised its “conceptual clarity” and at the same time “intoxicating virtuosity”. Invitations have led Dubrovsky and the Bach Consort Wien so far to the Wiener Musikverein, Theater an der Wien, Händelfestspiele Halle, the Mozartwoche Salzburg,. Brucknerhaus in Linz, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Häendel Festival at Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Lisinsky Hall Zagreb, Festival RheinVokal, Festival für Alte Musik St. Pölten, Donau Festival, and on numerous other international stages. Since his opera debuts at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden (Incoronazione di Poppea), Palau de les Arts Valencia (Arbore di Diana), Opera Bonn (Orlando Furioso) and Theater an der Wien (Polifemo), Rubén Dubrovsky is successful in the opera field as well. He has made a name for himself in recent years with a number of excellent and enthusiastically reviewed opera productions. His current operatic repertoire extends from Lully to Gluck, W.A. Mozart and Rossini, and includes a major focus on the operas of George Frideric Handel (Orlando, Rinaldo, Tamerlano, Radamisto, Guilio Cesare, Semiramide, Agrippina, Oresete, Semele) and and W.A. Mozart (Le nozze di Figaro, Cosí fan tutte, Mitridate, Idomeneo and La clemenza di Tito). As an opera conductor he has performed at the theaters such as Valencia, Dresden, Bonn, Kiel, Mannheim, Darmstadt, Schwetzingen, Moscow Bolshoi, and Theater an der Wien.

Past seasons iopera engagements included Alessandro Scarlatti's Marco Attilio Regolo at the Schlosstheater Schwetzingen, Tamerlano at Oper Bonn, Agrippina, Giulio Cesare, Rinaldo and Radamisto at Oper Kiel, as well as W.A. The Slovenian Television presented him in the opening concert of the Baroque Festival in Varazdin with Wiener Sängerknaben and Bach Consort Wien. He made his debut with Zürcher Kammerorchester and Hilliard Ensemble at Tonhalle Zürich.
