The American harpsichordist, pianist and music pedagogue, Alexandra Snyder Dunbar, obtained her HS Diploma in Piano and Violin from Interlochen Arts Academy (IAA, 1997-1999; IAC, 1998); her Bachoelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Manhattan School of Music (1999-2003); her Master of Music degree in Harpsichord Performance from The Juilliard School of Music in New York (2004-2006); and her D.M.A. degree in Harpsichord Performance from The Juilliard School of Music in New York (2006-2011; dissertation: Harpsichord Concertos of the 20th Century). She received a full scholarship as a resident in the C. V. Starr Fellows Program in the Doctoral program at Juilliard in the harpsichord studio of Lionel Party.
Alexandra Snyder Dunbar is an award-winning harpsichordist, pianist, and pedagogue, active since 1999. Solo performances with orchestra have included Orchestra 54, Dorian Baroque Orchestra, The Memphis Chamber Music Society, The Symphony of Westchester, and The Chamber Orchestra of New York. She has collaborated on performance projects with the The Dryden Ensemble, the Foundlings Ensemble, and The New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She has been Director of Washington Heights Musical Society since August 2014. Currently she serves as harpsichordist and Co-Artistic Director for Amethyst Baroque Ensemble. She is also organist at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Athens, Georgia (since February 2020).
Alexandra Dunbar has been Teaching Artist at The World of the Harpsichord in New York (since 2011); Business Manager at Special Music School in New York (2012-August 2013); Music History Teacher at Kaufman Music Center (Septembere 2014-June 2015). Currently she is on the music faculty at University of North Georgia (UNG) (since February 2020) and Piedmont Conservatory, and she concertizes and maintains a private teaching studio. She is also on Adjunct Faculty at Athens Technical College in Athens, Georgia (since July 2018); and a faculty member in the Music Theory department at the world-renowned Interlochen Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. Courses Taught: Music Appreciation (at UNG); Music Theory, Harpsichord (at Interlochen); The History of Popular Music (at Athens Technical College); Music Theory Harmony/Counterpoint (at Juilliard). She currently lives Athens, Georgia. |
