Thomas Gabriel (Piano)

Born: 1957 - Essen, Germany

The German pianist, Thomas Gabriel, studied catholic church music at the Folkwanghochschule in Essen. He concluded the A-exam with honour. In 1981 he was winner of the university competition, and in 1982 completed the concert exam in organ.

From 1983 to 1986 Thomas Gabriel was active as Kantor at the Liebfrauenkirche in Recklinghausen. From 1987 to 1989 he worked freely for the WDR and the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen. Subsequently, he moved in 1991 to Bezirkskantorstelle in Idstein/Bistum Limburg. From 1992 to 1997 he was region Kantor at Saarbrücken/Bistum Trier, and since September 1998 holds similar post at the Einhardbasilika Seligenstadt in Bistum Mainz.

Thomas Gabriel has already given numerous concerts as organist and a pianist, and he received order compositions for the Bistum Trier (musical Daniel) and the Bistum Mainz (Project 2000).

The three musicians, who forms the Thomas Gabriel Trio, became acquainted with each other when they studied at the Folkwang Music High School in Essen and founded 1981 the Thomas Gabriel Trio. The double-bass player Gunnar Polansky is member of the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen and the drummer Martin Klusmann is music teacher.

The trio has performed all over Germany and also abroad. It produced numerous recordings for various radio and TV stations. In 1985 the Thomas Gabriel Trio was awarded with the Kulturpreis of the city of Essen.
