The Spanish conductor, Daniel Garay, obtained his Diploma in History and Sciences of Music from the Universidad de La Rioja (2007-2015); his Diploma in Orchestra & Ensemble Conducting from the Escuela de Dirección de Orquesta y Banda “Maestro Navarro Lara” (2012-2014), and his Diploma in Symphony Orchestra Conducting from The Royal School of Music in London (2016). He also attended courses at the Academia de Dirección with professors Miguel Romea and Andrés Salado and master-classes with Professors Iker Sánchez, Rubén Gimeno, Álvaro Albiach, and Yaron Traub. He studied Spanish guitar and completed the Transverse Flute Professional Degree with Professor Francisco Antón. He studied Baroque transverse flute with Agostino Cirillo and Wilbert Hazelzet. He is a founding member of the group Aula Boreal in 1999, as a traverso and Baroque guitar player.
Daniel Garay made his debut in conducting with the recording of a CD with two great unpublished works by the Baroque composer Andrés de Algarabel y Arroyo. Since then, with Aula Boreal Camerata and the Orquesta ProArte de Madrid, he regularly conducts symphonic-choral works by various Spanish Baroque and Hispano-American composers (Salvador de Sancho, Acacio Garcilópez, Francisco Corral, etc.) recovered by Patxi García Garmilla, researcher in Spanish musicology. He has conducted in different Spanish locations, highlighting his participation in the XXII and XXV editions of the Otoño Musical Soriano. He has participated as assistant conductor for the EMSOC (European Medical Students Orchestra and Choir) concerts in its latest edition in the Basque Country. He specialized in choral performances, in his repertoire he has works such as Gloria by Francis Poulenc, Ode for the Funeral of Queen Mary by H. Purcell, Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi, Cantata BWV 140 by J.S. Bach, Requiem by John Rutter; and he has directed the world premiere of the Cantata El Cántico de las Criaturas by Julen Ezkurra.
From 2017 to 2019 Daniel Garay was the Principal Director of the Coro y Orquesta de la Asociación de Música de Cámara de Bilbao (AMCB). In December 2019 he conducted the zarzuela El Caserío a la Masa Coral del Ensache de Bilbao together with the Orquesta Sinfónica Labayru at the Teatro Campos de Bilbao. He currently directs the AMCB again and has been appointed as director of the Coral Salvé de Laredo on a date to be determined. |
