German hornsound (= GHS) was founded in 2009 by four graduates of the horn class of Professor Christian Lampert at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. The four horn players of German Hornsound are now members of Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, Staatsoper Hannover, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Bamberger Symphoniker respectively. The ensemble’s repertoire spans all the periods of music history, including original compositions and arrangements. However, German Hornsound has made a name for itself by developing unique projects of its own as well. In 2013, German Hornsound collaborated with the South Tyrolese writer Herbert Rosendorfer and Berlin opera director Karl-Dietrich Gräwe in performing such a project for the first time to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner and of Giuseppe Verdi. The quartet debuted at several leading festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Oberstdorfer Musiksommer and the Mosel Music Festival in a performance of the three-act opera fragment Siegfried und Violetta.
In the summer of 2013, German Hornsound commissioned Norwegian composer Trygve Madsen to compose a work for four horns and orchestra. The ensemble gave the premiere performance of Sinfonia concertante with the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra conducted by Olivier Tardy. |
