Mešani Pevski Zbor Glasbene Matice Ljubljana (Mixed Choir of Music Matice Ljubljana) continues the rich tradition of performing vocal-instrumental compositions by Slovenian and foreign composers. The singers are united by the ambition of in-depth study, re-creation at a high artistic level and collaboration with established professional musicians. Since 2017, the choir has been working under the artistic direction of conductor Sebastjan Vrhovnik and has performed in J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, G. Verdi's Requiem, Camille Saint-Saëns' Requiem, F. Schubert's Mass No. 5 in A flat major, C. Debussy's Three Nocturnes, Gustav Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 2 & 3, A. Bruckner's hymn Te Deum, George Frideric Handel's Alexander's Feast, C. Orff's cantata Carmina burana and in the Baroque concerts Dixit Dominus (Antonio Vivaldi, Alessandro Scarlatti, D. Scarlatti) and B.A.C.H. (J.S. Bach, Johann Michael Bach, Johann Ludwig Bach). The choir took part in the first concert performance of Tomaž Svetet's opera Antigone, and performed Žiga Stanič's Cantata of Shadows, Nana Forte's cantata Sanje leta and Tilno Slakan's Magnificat.
The ensemble cooperates with the Simfoničnim Orkestrom RTV Slovenija, Orkestrom in Zborom Slovenske Filharmonije, Vokalnimi in Inštrumentalnimi Ansambli Akademije za Glasbo v Ljubljani, Italijanskim Baročnim Ansamblom Cordia and the Baročnim Ansamblom Ljubljana. The ensemble has performed as part of the subscriptions of the Slovenske Filharmonije, the program of the Festivala Ljubljana, the cycle Kromatika Simfonikov RTV Slovenija, the subscription of the Iz(z)vrstni Cankarjevega Doma, the subscription of the Kulturnega Doma Nova Gorica, the Zavoda CELEIA, the Festivala Slovenski Glasbeni and performed under the baton of internationally renowned artists: Sebastjan Vrhovnik, Rossen Milanov, James Tuggle, Philipp von Steinaecker, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Roberto Abbado, Simon Krečič, Simon Dvoršak, Rahela Durič Barić and Kaki Solomnišvili. In addition to regular guest appearances in the programs of central Slovenian musical institutions, the choir also organizes independent vocal-instrumental and a cappella concerts with internationally renowned soloists and the most promising young Slovenian musicians.
The choir recorded for the RTV Slovenija program, and in co-production with ZKP RTV Slovenija, Glasbena Mmatica released a video and a music CD with recordings of two concerts. |
