The English mezzo-soprano, voice teacher and choral conductor, Diane Haslam, was born and raised in Mansfield, England, where she was a founder member of the Cantamus Girls Choir. She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music (1975-1979).
After her studies, Diane Haslam sang as a soloist with Opera Roundabout in London and accepted a full-time contract with the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam. She has performed as a mezzo-soprano soloist in operas, recitals, and orchestral concerts in England, Europe, and the USA.
In 2004, Diane Haslam moved to the USA, where she has been a respected voice teacher for more than twenty-five years. At Newberry College, South Carolina, she was Adjunct Professor of Voice (August 2007-June 2010) and there developed courses in Vocal Literature and Diction for Singers, coaching students in six languages. She then was Assistant Professor of Voice at University of South Carolina Aiken (January 2011-December 2017). She has given Master-Classes in vocal performance and led workshops in holistic singing in England and the USA. Her private voice studio, Vocal Dimensions (since 2001), is in Aiken, South Carolina, where she resides with her husband. She is the founder and musical director of the Aiken Singers (September 2005-June 2020), and Music Director of Belles Canto in Aiken, a teen girls choir of around 24 members (June 2012-June 2020), and Music Director of South Boundary Singers LLC in Aiken, auditioned men's ensemble of around 18 voices (June 2016-June 2020). She contributes monthly articles on singing to a musicians' blog at Music Collective. The Heart of Singing is her first book.
In 2020, Diane Haslam returned to England and took on the role of Musical Director for the Mansfield Choral Society. |
