Yvi Jänicke (Contralto)

Born: Berlin, Germany

The German contralto, Ivi Jänicke, began to study singing with Professor Helmut Kretschmar having first completed her studies of school music and the piano in Detmold. She won scholarship from the German ‘Musikrat’ and in 1988 won second prize in the field of opera singing and a special prize from the German Opera Berlin at the German VDMK contest. In 1989 she won first prize in the field of song recital at the International Singing Contest in s’Hertogenbosch.

Ivi Jänicke gives recitals, has numerous engagements for opera and oratorio performances in Germany, Spain, Canada, France, Holland and Switzerland. She has made radio and television recordings. Among the singers who have studied with her and/or attended her master-classes: Geneviève Tschumi (Mezzo-soprano), Catherina Witting (Soprano).***
