The German soprano, Catherina Witting, studied music education (main subject violin), obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen (2008-2011/2013); and her Master of Music degree in Singing from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (2015-2017). She also studied Italian at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (2013-2014). Her formative singing teachers were Silvia Schrenk, Monika Moldenhauer, Melanie Walz and Yvi Jänicke. She received further inspiration from Brigitte Fassbaender (singing), Roger Vignoles and Burkhardt Kehring (Lied) and Marc Tucker (historical performance practice), among others.
Catherina Witting already has extensive experience in the oratorio field and, after her debut in 2012 with Haydn's The Creation, took on the soprano parts in most of the major works of the oratorio repertoire. Concert tours as a soloist have taken her several times to neighboring European countries. In 2017 she won a prize at the Mozart-Wettbewerbs and the Elise-Meyer-Wettbewerbs.
Since January 2017 she has had a permanent position in the NDR-Chor (renamed
as NDR Vokalensemble). One of the highlights of this collaboration was the opening concert of the Elbphilharmonie under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock. She is also a member of various vocal ensembles, such as the Orpheus-Vokalensemble in Baden-Württemberg and Albis Cantores in Hamburg, as well as the Ensemble La Cimanesca, an ensemble for early music.
From April 2014 to July 2015 Catherina Witting held a teaching position for singing at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik Trossingen and also taught in the fields of ear training and choir conducting.
Catherina Witting gained her first stage experience both at the Theater Ulm, where she played a Carmelite nun in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites in autumn 2013, and at the Theater am Ring in Villingen, where she took on the lead role of Eliza Doolittle in the musical My Fair Lady.
Catherina Witting is also a sought-after interpreter in the field of new music. Both as a soloist and in an ensemble, she has already taken part in numerous premieres as part of the Donaueschinger Festivals für Neue Musik - "Donaueschingen Off" - and various other projects, where performances by composers such as Dieter Schnebel, Helmut Lachenmann, Steve Reich, Dieter Mack, Sidika Özdil and Elnaz Seydi have taken place.
Her participation in various CD, radio and television productions round off her musical activities. She currently lives in Hamburg, Germany. |
