The Spanish choral conductor, Pau Jorquera, began musical studies at the lEscola de Música de Barcelona and, later, at the Escola de Música La Guineu. He studied percussion with Ignasi Vila. He has received much of his musical training from the maestro Ramon Porter and has studied for his Master of Music Degree in Choral Conducting at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMuC) in Barcelona with Johan Duijck, Josep Vila and Mireia Barrera. He has attended several courses with Xavier Puig, Josep Prats, Xavier Sans, Emilio de la Linde, Poire Vallvé, among others. He has studied singing with professors Francesc Garrigosa and Marta Cordomí. He holds a degree in Choral Conductiong from ESMuC and a Diploma in Teaching, in the specialty of Musical Education, by the UAB.
Pau Jorquera directed the children's choir at the Escola Ntra. Sra. de Lourdes, with which he obtained recognitions from the Departament d'Ensenyament de la Generalitat. He also directed the children's choir, El Virolet, Societat Coral Illustració Artística de Sant Quirze del Vallès, Cor Albada de Granollers, Cor Diaula de Barcelona, Grup Coral Horta and Coral Sinera, with which he won the second prize at the Festival Internacional de Música Coral in Malgrat de Mar, in 2012. With these choirs, he has performed works such as Camille Saint-Saëns's Oratorio de Noël, M.A. Charpentier's Messe de Minuit pour Noël, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria and J.S. Bach's Cantata BWV 131.
At the age of 29, Pau Jorquera obtained the recognition of the jury as the best director of the Festival Internacional de Música Coral in Malgrat de Mar. He was the musical director of the recording of the cantata for children's choir, El baile, published in the Acuitacantar collection. He has composed two cantatas for mixed choir, children's choir and instrumental accompaniment, a cantata for children's choir, and several songs and arrangements for choir.
Pau Jorquera has worked as Professor of music and religion in Secondary Education at the Collegi Immaculada Concepció in Lloret de Mar, where he founded the Cor de Secundària.
He currently directs the choir Contrapunto Vocale de Barcelona, Coral Renaixença de Sant Boi de Llobregat and Cor L'Aixa d'Arenys de Mar. He is co-founder, with Daniel Tarrida, of the joint project Bach Zum Mitsingen (BZM), aimed at performing the complete J.S. Bach's Cantatas. He currently lives in Canet de Mar. |
