The German choral conductor, organist and church musician, Gebhard Kaiser, received his first piano and organ lessons from cathedral organist Professor Richard Liesche in Bremen. Later he studied church music in Berlin, with Professors Fritz Heitmann (organ), Julius Dahlke (piano) and Hans Chemin-Petit (composition and conducting).
Gebhard Kaiser found his first employment from 1946 to 1956 at various churches in Bremen, until he was appointed Kantor and organist at St. Ansgariim one of the main churches in Bremen, in 1957. He served in this post for almost 30 years (1957-1986).At the then Konservatorium, the current Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, he taught choral conducting, organ, organ building and score reading. From 1964 to 1988 he was head of the church music department of the Hochschule. In 1984 he was appointed Professor by the Bremen Senate.
With the Kantorei St. Ansgarii Gebhard Kaiser performed numerous oratorios and undertook concert tours throughout Germany, several times to Norway, the Netherlands and Paris. At St. Ansgarii he played weekly "30 Minuten Orgelmusik" (30 minutes organ music), which (in a roundabout way) became the model for the organ point. |
