The American choral conductor and organist, Paul T. Klemme, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from Central Methodist College, Fayette, Missouri (1979); his the Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting and Organ performance from the University of Michigan (1981); and his the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington (spring of 1988), where he was a teaching assistant in the choral conducting area. His conducting teachers include: Abraham Kaplan, Lawrence Marsh, and Helmuth Rilling. Organ instruction has been with John Ditto and Robert Glasgow.
Paul Klemme recently completed 9 years as Associate Professor of Music at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington before moving to Salem. He is presently the Director of Music Ministries at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem, Oregon, where he conducts four choirs at the church and serves as the parish organist. He is a member of the adjunct teaching faculty at Willamette University in Salem and conducts the Willamette Master Chorus of Salem. He is active as an organ recitalist in the USA and Europe (together with colleague, trumpeter Gerald Webster). Having over 15 years experience as a church musician, he often finds himself in demand in presenting workshops involving historical sacred music, and has played and conducted at the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon.
Paul Klemme has completed work on a catalogue of the complete music of the 20th century composer, Henk Badings and has recorded a CD which features Badings' works. Additionally, he and Gerald Webster have recently completed a CD recording of music for trumpet and organ on the Pro Organo label. He currently lives in Wilsonville, Oregon. |
