The American counter-tenor and director, Peter Koniers, is a Doctoral student in Historical Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Daniel Taylor.
Peter Koniers is quickly becoming a staple of the Toronto early music scene. In addition to performing with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra & Chamber Choir, past credits include various roles in Purcell’s Fairy Queen, Oberon (cover) in Benjamin Britten's Midsummer Night’s Dream, Friar and Balthazar in the workshop of the new opera Much Ado!, as well as other roles and chorus work. He also directed Antoine Dauvergne’s 1753 intermedio Les Troqueurs with Opera McGill (Schulich School of Music of McGill University) as part of their Horizons Project series. Past concerts include J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (Le Festival Bach de Montréal), Johannes Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem (with Kent Nagano). He formed Diapente, a Renaissance vocal quintet, in 2022 and is excited to join the Toronto Consort in their 2024-2025 season. While currently focused on thesis work based on the life and works of Johann Ludwig Bach, he enjoys performing good music with good people. He currently lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. |
