Emmy Lisken (Contralto)

Born: February 3, 1923 - Moers, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Died: October 11, 2020 - Berlin, Germany

The German contralto ans singing teacher, Emmy Lisken, studied singing at the Konservatorium Düsseldorf with Professor Franziska Martienßen-Lohmann (1887-1971).

From 1955 to 1958, Emmy Lisken worked as first dramatic alto at the Stasttheaster Basel and at the Städitschen Bühnen Köln, and since 1958 she appeard mainly as a concert singer. She performerd in oratorio concerts in Germany, France, the Netherlands, England, Switzerland, Belgium and at the Festival du Marais in Paris. She sang constantly as a guest on German broadcasts and was highly esteemed and pouplar.

From 1976 to 1998, Emmy Liskem taught singing at the Leopold-Mozart Konservatorium in Augsburg. Among the singers who have studied with her and/or attended her master-classes: Ina Jaks (Contralto), Renate Kaschmieder (Mezzo-soprano). Emmy Lisken-Steingen lived in Ingolstadt and died in Berlin, aged 97.
