Lunds Vokalensemble is a choir, based in Lund. The choir started its activity in 1990 under Håkan Olsson and was directed from 1995 to 2013 by Ingemar Månsson. The choir consists of around 35 singers. The repertoire is very broad with a certain emphasis on contemporary European a cappella music.
Lunds Vokalensemble performs mainly in Sweden, but regularly tours abroad and has won the Grand Prix in Debrecen in 1998 and the European Grand Prix in Varna in 1999. Thanks to its successes, the choir has been invited to the ACDA (American Choral Directors' Association) Southwest Convention 2000 and the ACDA National Convention in New York 2003, where the choir appeared in Carnegie Hall, Riverside Church and Lincoln Center.
Lunds Vokalensemble has released 8 studio-produced CD's, most recently a record in Nordic folkton ("...du som är allra kärasten min, den nordiska folkvisan"). A 7th, challenging a cappella album, was recorded in the studio in autumn 2012. In addition, the choir has recorded a number of live CD's, including J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), Verdi's Requiem and Johannes Brahms' Requiem., as well as works by Benjamin Britten and Francis Poulenc.
Lunds Vokalensemble has performed and produced many newly written works. Several of the choir's current former members are composers and have contributed works to the choir, such as Linda Alexandersson, Ulrika Emanuelsson, Stefan Klaverdal and Håkan Olsson Reising.
Lunds Vokalensemble invites guest conductors on a regular basis. Among others, Eric Ericson, Gustaf Sjökvist and Ragnar Bohlin have visited the choir. Since autumn 2016, the choir is directed by by Martin Arpåker. |
