The German church musician (choral conductor and organist), Veit Martin, began learning the flute in his first year of school, and later the piano and organ. His musical talent was nurtured by the Kantor of his church. However, he never aspired to make music his profession. At 15, as part of a bet with friends, he spontaneously attended a rehearsal of the local men's choir. It was well known that rehearsals there weren't just about singing and practicing, but also about camaraderie and enjoying a drink or two. He quickly became a regular member of the choir, and when a friendly singing event was held with a long-time partner men's choir in Erdeborn, near Eisleben, chance intervened once again. The celebratory church service honoring the choir's meeting took place without organ music, as that church had no Kantor. Veit Martin spontaneously stepped in and was promptly asked by the pastor if he would like to make church music his profession. Once the idea was sparked, he conceived the notion of turning his hobby into a career.
Initially, Veit Martin had chosen to train as a mechatronics technician at Opel Eisenach. After successfully completing his apprenticeship and working in the field for some time, he couldn't imagine spending his entire life doing that. He applied for a position at the Church Music Seminary in Halberstadt. was accepted. Afterward, he went on to study at the Universität Greifswald. There, at the Institut für Kirchenmusik und Musikwissenschaft, which is part of the Faculty of Philosophy, he graduated with a Diploma in Church Music, thus also earning degrees in philosophy and musicology.
With his diploma in hand, Veit Martin became Regional Kantor in Königsee near Saalfeld in 2016, responsible for 22 parishes. Despite the immense workload, he forged many professional and personal friendships, and his departure was met with reluctance. During his time there, he directed and developed several choirs, trained young church musicians, led brass ensembles, worked with children and youth, organized and contributed to concerts and musical events, and much more. After four years, he applied to the parish of Radeburg, was accepted ann now serves as Kantor in the Radeburg region in Saxony.
Veit Martin also offers lessons for brass instruments, flutes, piano, organ, and voice. |
