The German mezzo-soprano, Julienne Mbodjé, studied singing as a junior student at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with Profssor Britta Schwarz (2010-2014). After graduating from high school, she moved to the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg for her bachelor's degree in Professor Dorothea Wirtz's singing class, where she studied opera singing, concert singing and vocal pedagogy. In 2019, she began her master's degree in opera at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC Barcelona) with Mireia Pinto and completed it from 2020-2021 in Professor Mareike Morr's class at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. She is the winner of the NDR-Kulturradio-Preis, which enabled her to perform concerts and live broadcasts at the Rathaus Hamburg and the NDR Landesfunkhaus Hannover, among other. She also won a prize at the 9. Internationalen Telemann Wettbewerb in 2017 and was awarded a scholarship from the der Richard-Wagner Stipendienstiftung in 2019. Master-classes have taken her to Anne Le Bozec (Paris), Kai Wessel (Cologne), Luisa Giannini (Venice) and Reinhard Goebel (Salzburg).
In the winter semester of 2017-2018, Julienne Mbodjé made her debut in the role of Clarice in G. Rossini's opera La pietra del Paragone (Freiburg). Shortly thereafter, she made her debut at the Theater Freiburg (2018-2019 season) in the modern production Wunderland by Anno Schreier. The role of Fidalma in D. Cimarosa's Il matrimonio segreto (2019-2020) and Dinah in Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti (2020-2021) expanded her opera repertoire. In the summer of 2022, she made her biggest role debut to date as part of the Ettlingen Castle Festival: Carmen in Georges Bizet's Carmen.
In addition to outstanding musicians and directors such as Hans-Christoph Rademann, Frieder Bernius, Jörg Straube, Kirsten Harms, Scott Sandmeier, Daniel Carter and Attilio Cremonesi, Julienne Mbodjé has had the honor of touring in and outside Europe with renowned ensembles such as the Ensemble Recherche, Freiburger Barockorchester, RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin and Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. The oratorios and passions of J.S. Bach and the mezzo parts of G. Rossini represent a core part of her repertoire. She has been a permanent member of the RIAS-Kammerchor Berlin since January 2023. She can also be seen as a freelance singer on concert and opera stages across Europe. |
