The American flautist, music director and music teacher, Kelly Nivison, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Flute Performance from Appalachian State University (2001-2005), where she also received a K-12 music education degree; her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Florida State University (2006-2008), where she also received certificate in early music; and her Doctor of Music degree in Historical Flute Performance from the Early Music Institute at Indiana University Bloomington (2008-2017), where she also completed a minor in music education and modern flute performance (2008-2011). Her teachers include Barbara Kallaur, Kathryn Lukas, Eva Amsler, and Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham. She has won 2nd place in the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra's Concerto Competition (2014), has been a semi-finalist in the National Flute Association's Baroque Flute Artist competition four times (2007, 2009, 2012, 2015), and has won the National Flute Association's Baroque Masterclass Performers competition (2011).
Kelly Nivison is the Co-Director of Bands at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, North Carolina (since August 2015), performs with the Durham Symphony on flute and piccolo (since September 2012), performs regularly with the Fayetteville Symphony (since September 2012), and on traverso, she performs with the Raleigh Camerata (since July 2013), North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (since August 2013), and the Catawba River Baroque. She teaches flute, saxophone, and piano privately, and has previously served as the adjunct professor of applied woodwinds at Vincennes University (July 2011-May 2012). She has previously performed with Indy Baroque Orchestra's Ensemble Voltaire, Bourbon Baroque Orchestra, and Owensboro Symphony in addition to several other modern orchestras and ensembles. She serves on the board for the Mallarme Chamber Players, previously served as the volunteer coordinator and board member for the Bloomington Early Music Festival, and was previously the president of Gamma Ut, the student organization for the Early Music Institute at Indiana University.
Kelly Nivison is an up and coming name in the early music community. In addition to performing with the Catawba River Baroque and Raleigh Camerata, she serves as the artistic director and founder of the Raleigh Camerata (July 2013). She currently lives in Apex, North Carolina, USA. |
