Tamara Obermayr (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Austria

The Austrian mezzo-soprano Tamara Obermayr, has been on stage since she was a child and has a wide-ranging opera, song and concert repertoire. She took her first steps as a singer in the Kinderchor des Salzburger Landestheaters, her first solo role was the Third Boy in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg and her career choice was sealed at the age of 15 with her interpretation of Cherubino in a short version of W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the Landesmusikschule Mondsee. Early music is very close to her heart, which is reflected both in her repertoire list and in her repeated collaborations with Hansjörg Albrecht, Michi Gaigg, Gordon Safari and Alfredo Bernardini. She is valued for her spontaneous embellishments, her virtuosity, openness, curiosity and musical comprehension, among other things.

Tamara Obermayr began her training at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, where she first successfully completed the BA Singing and BA IGP Singing courses. She then completed her master's degree in "Song and Oratorio" in the classes of Professor Kammersängerin Elisabeth Wilke and Professor Pauliina Tukiainen, also with distinction. She then continued her career at the Bayrischen Theaterakademie August Everding with the master's degree in Music Theater/Opera Singing in the class of Professor Daniela Sindram. During her studies, she was awarded two performance scholarships from the Universität Mozarteum as well as scholarships from the August Everding Stiftung, Johann-Adolph-Hasse Gesellschaft München and Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Stiftung.

Tamara Obermayr's concert highlights include solo performances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Isarphilharmonie München, Münchner Gasteig and Münchner Herkulessaal, Großen Saal der Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, Pieterskerk Leiden, Musikfest Bremen and Bad Arolser Barock-Festspielen. Her work is enriched by her collaboration with well-known ensembles such as the Collegium Vocale Salzburg (Director: Albert Hartinger), BachWerkVokal Salzburg (Director: Gordon Safari), La Divina Armonia (Director: Lorenzo Ghielmi), Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Chor Hamburg (Director: Hansjörg Albrecht) and L'Orfeo Barockorchester (Director: Michi Gaigg). She has attended master-classes with Kammersängerin Christa Ludwig, Malcolm Martineau, Anne Le Bozec, Vesselina Kasarova, Kai Wessel, Luca Pianca, Margit Legler, Simon Lepper, Terry Wey, Will Humburg, Arttu Kattaja, Nicola Beller Carbone, Bernarda Fink, as part of the Deutschen Liedakademie Trossingen and at the Internationaal Lied Festival Zeist.

In opera productions, Tamara has so far appeared as Roselane in Johann Christian Bach's Zanaida, Clare in Philip Venables’s 4.48 Psychosis, Juditha in Antonio Vivaldi's Juditha triumphans,, Prince Orlofsky in J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Ottavia in C. Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea,. In summer 2024, she will be a participant in the Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival, where she will play the first woman with the donkey in history in C. Orff's opera Die Kluge.
