Opella Musica (Vocal Ensemble) |
Founded: 2011 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany |
The vocal ensemble Opella Musica gave its début in 2011 with a CD release in honour of the composer Johannes Eccard. Its members are noteworthy for their busy solo schedules both in Germany and abroad. Taken together, their solo qualities and ensemble skills constitute the musical bedrock of their performances. The ensemble takes its name from two collections of vocal music published by the composer Johann Hermann Schein in 1618 and 1623. Opella, the Latin term for ‘small endeavour’, refers to the ensemble’s philosophy of performing magnificent Baroque music with very small forces to produce translucent textures. Opella Musica has made guest appearances inter alia at the Bachfest Leipzig, Praetorius Days (Creuzburg), Merseburg Organ Days and throughout central Germany. Since 2013 the Opella Musica attends to the rediscovering and recording of the sacred works by Johann Kuhnau. |
