The Catalan composer, Pol Requesens Roca, joined in 2000 the Escolania de Montserrat, where he studied oboe, piano, organ and singing. In the Escolania he had the opportunity to work with directors such as Manel Valdivieso, Pierre Cao, Kirill Petrenko or Mstislav Rostropovich. Once his time in the Escolania was over, he returned to Igualada, where he followed his musical studies at the local conservatoire. During those years, he continued singing and playing in several choral and instrumental ensembles, and began exploring the world of composition. He studied at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona (2009-2014), specialising in Musical Theory and Composition. He graduated in 2013 with his project Dies Irae, the everlasting sequence. During this period, he studied composition with professors Bernat Vivancos and Agustí Charles and worked with Mauricio Sotelo, Daniel Ott, José Maria Sánchez Verdú, Albert Guinovart, Pedro Alcalde, Aureliano Cattaneo, Thomas Noll, Stefano Gervasoni and Karst de Jong, among others. He has received classes from Salvatore Sciarrino, Klaus Huber, Sofia Gubaidulina and Barbara Hannigan, among others. He expanded his composition skills doing a Master in Composition in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (September 2018-2020) with Willem Jeths and Wim Henderickx, finishing his studies with the thesis Introduction to Phonetics and Voice Timbre.
Pol Requesens has been a freelance self-employed composer since 2014. The effect of the use of phonetics in compositions for vocal ensemble and its application in his own music. He has won the prizes VII Premio de Composición Luis Morondo de l’Agrupación Coral de Cámara de Pamplona (2015) and Premi de composició Paquita Madriguera d’Igualada (2016). His music has been performed around the Catalan Countries, Germany and the Netherlands by ensembles such as Cor de Cambra Francesc Valls (Choir of Barcelona Cathedral), Escolania de Montserrat, VEUS Cor Infantil Amics de la Unió, Bach Collegium Barcelona, Cor de Cambra Anton Bruckner, Cor de Cambra de Granollers, Coral Càrmina, Orquestra de Cambra de Granollers, Orquestra Terrassa 48 and Jove Orquestra Simfònica de l’Anoia. Organist Vicenç Prunés has also premièred several comissioned pieces.
Pol Requesens is also a bass singer. He is a member of Bach Collegium Barcelona (Director: Pau Jorquera). He currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. |
