Claude Rippas (Trumpet)

Born: 1946 - Switzerland

The Swiss trumpeter and educator, Claude Rippas, studied in Bern (Carlo Poggi), Zürich (Henri Adelbrecht), and Paris (Pierre Thibaud). He won prizes at international competitions, including the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Toulon International Music Competition, and the Maurice André Competition in Paris.

After his studies, Claude Rippas, played in the following orchestras from 1970 to 1982: Musikkollegium Winterthur, Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphonieorchester, Münchner Philharmoniker, and Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich. As a soloist, he performs a diverse repertoire with numerous orchestras and organists throughout Europe and is also dedicated to performing on historical instruments and chamber music. His solo and chamber music career began in 1968 during his studies in Bern.

Claude Rippas was one of the pioneers mastering the Brandenburg on Baroque trumpet. He recorded more than 30 recordings, thereof most of them contain J.S. Bach works, often arranged by Claude Rippas.

From 1972, Claude Rippas taught at the Konservatorium Winterthur and Konservatorium Zürich. Until June 2009, he was Professor of Trumpet at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK).
