The ensemble Salzburger Solisten was founded in 1979 by Luz Leskowitz with the aim of creating a highly qualified ensemble for chamber music and solo appearances. The players (in total seven: two violins, two violas, two cellos and a double bass) either occupy prominent positions in leading European orchestras or work as professors at various colleges of music, and first came together in the context of a festival established by Luz Leskowitz; the ensemble gave its debut concert at the opening of the 10th Harzburger Musiktage in July 1979. The name 'Salzburger Solisten' obliges the members to keep their solo careers active. and to appear in various, often unusual chamber music combinations.
By making numerous international concert tours, the Salzburger Solisten soon acquired a worldwide reputation. The group is also the resident ensemble of the Salzburg Schloßkonzerte (also founded by Luz Leskowitz), the world's most extensive series of chamber concefis, with more than 270 performances per year. The Salzburger Solisten collaborate with eminent musicians from all over the world, and have made numerous radio and TV broadcasts both in Austria and internationally. |
