Luis Manuel Sánchez (Conductor)

Born: Mexico City

The Mexican conductor, Luis Manuel Sánchez Rivas, completed his professional studies as a tuba player with Dwight Sullinger and graduated with honors from the Facultad de Música de la UNAM. His conducting studies were carried out under the chair of Ismael Campos and he has taken advanced courses with Ronald Zollman, Enrique Bátiz, José Vilaplana, Robert Meunier, Franco Cesarini and Fernando Lozano.

As a guest conductor Luis Manuel Sánchez has conducted the Ópera de Bellas Artes, Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM, Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes, Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato, Orquesta Filarmónica Mexiquense, Orquesta Juvenil Universitaria Eduardo Mata, Orquesta Sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes, Orquesta Sinfónica de Puebla, Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, Coro del Teatro de Bellas Artes, Coro de Madrigalistas de Bellas Artes, Solistas Ensamble del INBA; Traditional Choir of the Diaspora in Greece; Banda Sinfónica Nacional in Costa Rica; Banda Sinfónica Integrada de las Américas in Colombia; Northern Arizona University Wind Symphony and Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble in the USA; Banda Sinfónica de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Bilbao in Spain,

Luis Manuel Sánchez was Chief Conductor of the Sinfónica de Alientos de la Policía Federal from 2007 to 2015 and of the Orquesta Típica de la Ciudad de México from 2017 to 2020. From 2019 to 2022 he was Assistant Musical Director of the Compañía Nacional de Ópera, where he had the opportunity to conduct the American premiere of the opera Juana sin Cielo by Alberto Demestres and the world premiere of the Mexican opera Zorros Chinos by Lorena Orozco. He has nine recording productions conducting various groups and recorded the soundtrack for the Mexican films La leyenda del tesoro and Estoy todo lo iguana que se puede.

In 2019 Luis Manuel Sánchez won first place in the Conducting Competition organized by Bilbao Musiká in Spain and that same year he was nominated for a Latin Grammy for his participation as conductor of the Banda Sinfónica de la FaM UNAM, in the album "Vereda Tropical".

Luis Manuel Sánchez is currently Artistic Director of the Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes (OCBA) and Principal Conductor of the Banda Sinfónica de la Facultad de Música de la UNAM.
