The current Orquesta de Cámara UC (Universidad Católica de Chile) is part of the tradition that coincides with the very creation of the Institute of Music, whose center was the former Orquesta de Cámara founded by maestro Fernando Rosas. Unlike that very important group, which was constituted as a purely professional organization, the new orchestra is made up of the best students of the Instituto de Música who have gone through a rigorous selection process. In its three years of operation, the group has shown a growing quality, particularly when as of 2005 the outstanding violinist Professor Alvaro Parra has taken over as concertmaster-conductor. In its repertoire, works by Tartini, Antonio Vivaldi, W.A. Mozart, Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, Dvorak, and the contemporaries Piazzolla and Guarello stand out. The Coro de Cámara is a semi-professional group with a high vocal selection, which has allowed it to approach a varied and demanding repertoire that goes from the Middle Ages to contemporary music, both in “a cappella” singing and choral music accompanied by instrumental ensemble or orchestra. |
