The German church musician , conductor , music educator and organist, Nicolo Sokoli, studied church music (A-level examination 1997), choral and orchestral conducting (diploma 1999), and concert organ playing (diploma 1999) at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt/Main (1993-1999). His teachers included Daniel Roth (organ) and Wolfgang Schäfer and Winfried Toll (choral conducting). Master-classes with Ludger Lohmann, Wolfgang Rübsam, Christoph Bossert (organ), and Eric Ericson (choral conducting) completed his training.
In 1998, Nicolo Sokoli founded the vocal ensemble Cantemus, which he directed until 2016. From 2002 to 2016, he worked as regional cantor for the deaneries of Wetterau-East and -West, from 1998 to 2016 as a lecturer in vocal training and organ playing at the Institut für Kirchenmusik Mainz, and from 1999 to 2016 as an organ consultant for the Diocese of Mainz. In 2002, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Marburger Bachchor. From 2013 to 2016, he also served as choir-master and organist at the Einhard-Basilika St. Marzellinus und Petrus in Seligenstadt. With his ensembles and as an organist, he regularly gives concerts both in Germany and abroad. Concert tours with the Marburger Bachchor have taken him to Bulgaria, Romania, England, Slovenia, and Poland in recent years.
Several CD and radio recordings document Nicolo Sokoli's work. Most recently, the world premiere recording of Jan Dismas Zelenka's Missa Nativitatis Domini with the Marburger Bachchor and the Barockorchester L'arpa festante was released on the Leipzig label Genuin.
From 2016 to 2019, Nicolo Sokoli worked full-time at the Freien Waldorfschule Wetterau as a music teacher for the middle and upper grades. Since the 2019-2020 school year, he has been employed at the Freien Waldorfschule Marburg as an upper-grade music teacher. In this role, he also directs the upper-grade choir. |
