Víctor Sordo (Tenor)

Born: Badajoz, Catalonia, Spain

The Spanish tenor, Víctor Sordo, began his studies at the Conservatorio de Badajoz (1997-2003) with Jesús Muela and later Guadalupe Rey and Alonso Gómez in piano and choir music respectively. Later, he moved to Seville to study at the Conservatorio Superior de Música "Manuel Castillo" de Sevilla (2005-2009) for Superior Degree in Choral Direction with Ricardo Rodríguez, a fact that definitely brought him closer to the vocal world. He perfected his choir studies with Peter Phillips, Owen Rees, Fernando Eldoro, Graham O'Reilly, Marcel Perés, Tamara Brooks, Marco Berrini, Julio Domínguez and Javier Busto among others, and singing studies with Isabel Álvarez, Miguel Bernal, Bart Vandewege, Lambert Climent, María Coronada, Jan Van Elsacker, Lluis Vilamajó, Ana Luisa Chova or Kevin Smith.

Víctor Sordo has specialized in historical singing. He regularly sings as soloist with the most prestigious instrumental groups: Forma Antiqva (since 2009), Ricercar Consort (Director: Philippe Pierlot; since 2017), Le Concert des Nations (Director: Jordi Savall), Vespres d'arnadí, The harp consort, Academia 1750 (since 2015), Obaroq, Hespèrion XXI (Director: Jordi Savall; since 2015), La Ritirata, Accademia del piacere, Alayre Español, La Capilla Real de Madrid (Director: Óscar Gershensohn; since 2012), Barrocade Israel, Orquesta Barroca Catalana (since 2016), Orquesta de Cadaqués, Orquesta Sinfónica de Extremadura, Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Verum or Regina Ibérica (since 2013), among others, and their directors Jordi Savall, Eduardo López Banzo, Andrew Lawrence-King, Víctor Pablo Pérez, Michael Thomas, Philippe Pierlot, Kenneth Weiss, Daniel Espasa, Aarón Zapico, Hiro Kurosaki, Josetxu Obregón, Illia Korol, Fahmi Alqai, Óscar Gershensohn, Fausto Nardi, Manuel Coves, Josep Vila, Amaya Añúa or Pedro Halffter, doing essentially an oratorio and opera prior to the 18th century.

In the field of contemporary music, Víctor Sordo collaborates with the Zahir Ensemble of Seville, directed by Juan García and has premiered the opera El Lazarillo de Tormes by Iñigo Casalí, as well as the cantata Ketevan by Vasco Negreiros.

Víctor Sordo also collaborates with prestigious vocal groups such as Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe; 2009-2011), La Capella Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall; since 2010), La Colombina (since 2012), Arsys Bourgogne (Director: Pierre Cao; 2010-2014), Música Ficta (since 2014), Barcelona Ars Nova (since 2014), La Galanía (since 2014) or Ghislieri Consort (2012-2014), working with directors and groups such as Philippe Herreweghe, Jordi Savall, Frans Brüggen, Lluis Vilamajó, Enrico Onofri, Alfredo Bernardini, Jean Tubéry, Giulio Prandi, Pierre Cao, Mireia Barrera, Raúl Mallavibarrena, La Caravaggia, Les Talens Lyriques (Director: Christophe Rousset), La Fenice (Director: Jean Tubéry), Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Hespèrion XXI (Director: Jordi Savall; since 2015), Le Concert des Nations (Director: Jordi Savall; since 2015), Les Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Ensemble Zeffiro or Le Concert Lorrain, among others, singing in the most prestigious festivals and rooms in Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Luxembourg , Austria, Romania, Colombia, India or the USA. He has belonged to the stable group Novalux Ensemble (2010-2012), specialized in Renaissance and Baroque music and directed by Josep Cabré, performing around 150 concerts in numerous countries and participating in several recordings.

Among his more personal projects, there are several groups such as Luz y Norte (since 2013), along with the harpist Sara Águeda and gambista Calia Álvarez, centered in repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries, with whom he has recently recorded "Un viaje a Nápoles" and "Vea yo los ojos bellos"; Vandalia Ensemble (since 2013), vocal group dedicated to the polyphony of the 16th century and La Compañía Musical (since 2014), directed by Josep Cabré and with whom explores European and American repertoire of the Renaissance. With all of them, he performs an important concert and recording work.

Víctor Sordo has an intense recording activity and for Radio and Television, recording among others with Deutsche Grammophon, Sony-Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Alia Vox, Brilliant, Pentatone, Ánima e Corpo, Glossa, Vanitas, Enchiriadis, OBS-Prometeo, France Musique, ARTE, NDR, NT4, RTS, TV1, RN2, Catalunya Radio, etc.

Víctor Sordo was a former member of the teaching staff of the Andalusian program of young interpreters of the Junta de Andalucia, as well as in various courses of historical song. He ALSO works as a sound engineer and recording director with his new UBN project, having already carried out several recordings. He currently lives in Madrid, Spain.
