ARSYS (Choir)

Founded: October 1999 - Vézeley, France

ARSYS

The most recent of France's professional choirs, ARSYS appeared on the music scene in October 1999.

The choir, whose musical productions account for a major part of the activity of the Pôle d'Art Vocal de Bourgogne, based in Vézelay, was formed at the suggestion of the Burgundy Region, with the aim of creating a professional tool with access to the best possible cultural and artistic conditions.

Stimulated by its conductor, Pierre Cao, a great specialist in choral conducting, Arsys has built up a fine reputation based on its very high artistic standards. With a vast repertoire, covering five centuries of music, the choir is stylistically very versatile. Its collaboration with instrumental ensembles such as Concerto Köln and the Ensemble Baroque de Limoges has enabled the choir to work under excellent artistic and musical conditions. ARSYS now records for the labei Ambroisie.

The Pôle d'Art Vocal de Bourgogne

The Pôle d'Art Vocal de Bourgogne, based in Vézelay, came into being in 1999. Its missions are threefold. To manage the concerts, European tours and recordings of its choir, ARSYS. To schedule and organise the Rencontres Musicales de Vezeiay, which take place each year during .the last week in August. To implement an ambitious cultural policy aimed principally at the professional integration of young European choral conductors, and the organisation of academies, conferences and courses in its new premises on the hill at Vézelay.

The Pole d'Art Vocal is subsidised by .the Burgundy Regional Council, the Ministry of Culture and the Yonne General Council.
