The Stadtkantorei Stade, formed in 2002 in from the two choirs St. Cosmae and Kantorei St. Wilhadi, has well over 100 members. Singing in worship, a cappella concerts and oratorios are central to the work the choir. Besides the great works such as Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) and Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) by J.S. Bach are repeatdely performed as well as unknown or not yet listed in Stade compositions such as St. Nicolas by Benjamin Britten and the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré.
In the a cappella field have had to face all the major works of the 19th and 20th centuries. The cantoral choir service is divided between the two downtown churches of St. Cosmae et Damiani and St. Wilhadi.
In 2011 following the performance of the Johannes-Passion (BWV 245) by J.S. Bach, the choir premiered a work by Carsten Gerlitz as part of a convertible concert with the King’s Singers (Lower Saxony Music Days). In the fall the Stadtkantorei sang the Requiem by Maurice Duruflé, in December, Cantatas I-III of Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) by J.S. Bach and a version for children's Weihnachts-Oratorium (BWV 248) performed. In 2012, on Good Friday the choir performed Via Crucis by Franz Liszt; Mass in B minor (BWV 232) by J.S. Bach and the Magnificat by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach are also on the program.
