Jack Thompson (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: Leicester, East Midlands, England

The English choral conductor and organist, Jack Thompon, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with Honors from Durham University (September 2012-August 2015), where he was an organ scholar, vice-chancellor's scholar and recipient of the Barker Music Award. He completed his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at Cambridge University (September 2015-August 2016). Here, he was Organ Scholar of Corpus Christi College (September 2015-August 2016) and Organist for St John's Voices (September 2015-August 2016), the mixed-voice choir of St John's College. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, aged 24, in 2018. He later obtained Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with QTS (2018-2019) and Master of Arts degree in Education (2019-2020), both from University of Buckingham; and Master of Arts degree in Ecucation from University of Oxford (2022-2024). He has studied choral conducting and organ performance with some of the world's most prominent musicians and educators, including Stephen Layton, James Lancelot, Graham Ross, Mark Williams and Dame Gillian Weir.

Jack Thompon is Founder and Artistic Director of the Cadogan Consort, and has worked in recent projects with members of the BBC Singers, Glyndebourne Opera, Tenebrae and The Sixteen. He has prepared choirs for performances with Sir Thomas Allen and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and has also worked with children’s choruses and youth ensembles in advance of concerts and broadcasts at the BBC Proms. He remains in frequent demand as an organist and continuo player, and performed twice as a soloist for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.

Jack Thompson is currently Director of Music at St Mary's Church, Chelsea (since September 2016) and Head of Choral Music at Wellington College (since January 2023). He has worked previously as a conductor and organist at Oxford (September 2016-August 2017, Cambridge (September 2015-August 2016) and Durham (September 2012-August 2015) Universities. He also was Organist & Teacher/Head of Academic Music at Ardingly College (September 2016-August 2020); and Artistic Director of Sussex Chorus (September 2018-August 2020). Today he maintains a busy freelance career alongside choirs and ensembles from across the UK. He is often available for weddings, receptions, religious services and other events. He is located in and around the South East during School term time, and in Central London during the Christmas, Easter, and Summer vacations.
