Esther Ting (Mezzo-soprano, Piano, Choral Conductor)

Born: May 4, 1994 - Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia

The Malaysian choral conductor, coloratura mezzo soprano and pianist, Esther Ting (Chinese: 陳卓瑩), received her Associate Piano Performance Diploma (2009) from Trinity College of London and Licentiate Jazz Piano Performance (2010) from International Music Examination Board, Australia. She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Roberts Wesleyan College in New York State (2014-2018), where she studied under Professor Constance Fee. She was awarded the Presser Scholar Award by Roberts Wesleyan College for her excellent performance in music and her contributions to the music department. She obtained her Master of Music degree in Conducting-Choral from Eastman School of Music (2018-2020); and her Artist Certificate in Choral Conducting from Georgia State University College of Arts & Sciences (August 2020-May 2021).

Esther Ting has been active in the field of classical music in USA and Malaysia; she has collaborated with many professional choral ensembles including the Yale Camerata Choir, Atlanta Chamber Choir, Bachfest Malaysia, and Voices in New York. She has also been invited as the vocal instructor and soloist for organizations including the International Christian Choral Conductor Society, Kenaniah Chorale Association, Bintulu Chinese Christian Music Association, and The World Association For Chinese Church Music.

In 2017, Esther Ting was the finalist of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the recipient of Presser Scholar Award from Robert Wesleyan College. She participated in opera and musical theatre shows in undergraduate studies, including Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and Beauty and the Beast. In 2018 and 2019, her Music Production Team organized two concerts in her hometown, The Past And The Present, and her solo vocal recital. Besides the engagement in conducting and singing and as a piano soloist, she was the collaborative pianist of Eastman Women’s Chorus (2018-2019) and Roberts Wesleyan College Chorale (2017-2018), as well as the cantor of Arbor House Free Methodist Church in Batavia, New York. Recent highlights include appearing as guest soloist and vocal coach of East Malaysia Sacred Music Youth Choir Camp, chamber singer of East Malaysia Bach Cantatas Lecture Concert Tour, and assistant conductor of Kenaniah Youth Festival Choir and Kenaniah Adult Choir. Repertoire of past performances include W.A. Mozart’s Coronation Mass, L.v. Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, John Rutter’s Gloria, Finzi’s In Terra Pax and George Frideric Handel’s Messiah. She was Organist and Music Director at Redeemer Lutheran Church - Rochester, New York (September 2019-June 2020); Assistant Music Director at The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Atlanta (August 2020-May 2021).

Esther Ting is the Co-founder (August 2022) and Music Director of Kenaniah Young Adult Chorale and MPI Choir and Orchestra Director of Kingdom Music Academy Orchestra in Sibu. In season 2021-2022, she was appointed as the Lead Choral Music Teacher at Harpeth Hall School (August 2021-May 2022), a private all girls school, in Tennessee of USA. Under her tutelage, the chamber choir won superior rating in sight reading and performance in Middle Tennessee Vocal Association’s High School Choral Festival. The members of the chamber choir won positions in Tennessee Music Education Association Honor Choir (No. 1 ranking) and Southern American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir. She was also appointed as the judge of MTVA Annual Solo and Ensemble High School Festival. This March, Ting led the chamber choir in singing with the Grammy Award winner and the pioneer of African American Spirituals, Fisk Jubilee Singers, at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She also commissioned an American composer to compose a Choir-String Quartet work, The Four, which was premiered at the year end concert. As an effort to share music and love, the chamber choir also performed a concert for special education nearby the school.
