Toshiki Tsumuraya (Harpsichord, Conductor)

Born: October 21, 1988 - Furudono Town, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan

The Japanese Harpsichordist and conducor, Toshiki Tsumuraya [Japanese: 圓谷 俊貴], has studied piano since the age of 4, vocal music since the age of 18, and harpsichord since the age of 20, and graduated from the Department of Instrumental Music, Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in early music harpsichord (2012-2016). He also studied at Studied at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen (JLU). He studied vocal music under Kanichi Suzuki, Gerd Türk, Rufus Müller, Yukari Nonoshita; harpsichord under Naoya Otsuka; piano and fortepiano under Kikuko Ogura; and conducting under Takuya Nemoto. He won the Kinoshita Prize for Collaboration at the 88th Japan Music Competition.

As a continuo player, Toshiki Tsumuraya has participated in performances such as the Bach Cantata Ensemble, the ensemble by members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Ishida Gumi, the Koriyama Canal International Music Festival 2023, and the Suntory Summer Festival 2023. He is a member of Ensemble Muromachi. He is also highly regarded as an accompanying pianist and répétiteur, and many singers and players have nominated him as their collaborator.

Toshiki Tsumuraya presides over the Promusica Baroque Academy, an early music orchestra launched in December 2020, and conducts as basso continuo and Artistic Director. From 2024, he attempts to perform all of J.S. Bach's cantatas. In the sponsored performance series "Bunmei Kaika," he performs as a soloist in harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, and others. In September 2024, he will premiere the harpsichord concerto Invitation to the Four Seasons composed by Kae Hirakawa.

In April 2024, Toshiki Tsumuraya released his first album, "Promusica Mission with Toru Kaori ~Italian Songs~," which was selected as a "Special Selection" in the Ongaku Gendai magazine published by Geijutsu Gendaisha. He is the conductor of the choir CVP (Collegium Vocale Purafonte) and the representative director of Promusica Continuo Co., Ltd. He serves as the "Furudono Town Hometown Support Ambassador."
