Geoffrey Williams (Counter-tenor)

Born: November 22, 1976 - Springfield, Missouri, USA

The American counter-tenor, Geoffrey D. Williams, began his musical life as a treble in The American Boychoir. He is a graduate of Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey (Class of 2002) and the University of Illinois.

Acclaimed for his “deeply hued countertenor" (New York Times), Geoffrey Williams is in growing demand as an early music specialist throughout the USA. He performs regularly with Vox Vocal Ensemble, Early Music New York, and the Clarion Music Society. He is founding member and artistic director of the of the GRAMMY nominate acclaimed male classical quartet New York Polyphony. Their current CD, "Tudor City", has been featured on American Public Radio's New Classical Tracks, WNYC’s Choral Fixation and NPR's All Things Considered.

Devoted church musician, Geoffrey Williams is a former member of the Washington National Cathedral Choir, and was for a decade a Gentleman of the Saint Thomas Choir of Men & Boys at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue. He was also a member of TENET Vocal Artists (Director: Jolle Greenleaf).

Acclaimed by the Denver Post for his “sculpted, soaring sound,” Geoffrey Williams is as comfortable performing the music of Perotin and Purcell as he is with post-modern and contemporary repertoire including recent appearances with Grammy-award winning contemporary music ensemble, eighth blackbird. In the summer of 2011 he joined the faculty of the Amherst Early Music Festival. In 2015, he was appointed Choirmaster of Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church in Champaign, Illinois. He married Emilie Williams on June 26, 2004 and currently lives in Urbana, Illinois.
