The Dutch choral conductor, Martien van Woerkum, had passions for music and visual arts since he was young. He obtained his solo diploma flute; final diploma choral conducting, music; painting from the Fontys University of Applied Sciences Tilburg (Fontys Hogeschool Tilburg) (1969-1977). He later received training in drawing and painting at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen (Belgium) and completed them successfully in 1995.
Martien van Woerkum makes music his profession as a conductor and flautist. His abstract work has developed on two tracks: one geometric compositional, the other intuitive improvisational. Golden ratio and primary and complementary colours are image-defining factors. Form, colour and movement are an inexhaustible source of inspiration and the binding element with the music. He was the permanent conductor of Koor en orkest Stichting Bachcantates Tiburg in the first phase (December 2000-September 2010). He raised the artistic and musical quality of the choir and orchestra to a high level and put Stichting Bachcantates Tilburg on the cultural map of the region. He teaches at the Fontys Hogescholen. |
